Welcome and thank you for visiting our blog. The British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch was established in 1972 to support the life saving research of the BHF. We have created this page to help Islanders keep up to date with local events, activities and ways in which you can support our local fight against heart disease.
Nominations for the Jersey Heart Awards 2018 are now open and the BHF Jersey Branch is once again inviting Islanders to nominate their friends, family and members of the community who have joined the fight against heart disease.
According to Jersey’s latest Public Health Statistics Reports, 2,400 Islanders are currently living with Heart Disease and with this number estimated to increase by more than 63% to 3,900 in the next 20 years. The BHF Jersey Branch is proud to host the awards, designed to recognise Islanders going above and beyond to fight against this indiscriminate killer.
There are several categories up for public nomination. From individuals who have had to use quick thinking to administer CPR (Local Life-Saver Award) or a Heart Champion living with cardiovascular disease and fighting back with a personal challenge, to individuals encouraging healthy life choices within the community (Healthy Heart Ambassadors), young ambassadors (Young Heart Hero) or those offering vital support to Islanders through difficult times (Heart Supporter).
The deadline for nominations is Sunday 14th January, when the panel of judges will whittle down entries to a shortlist of finalists for public vote. Award winners will be announced at the Jersey Heart Awards Gala Dinner being hosted at the Radisson Blu Hotel on Saturday 24th February 2017. The evening includes a host of celebrations including live entertainment & performances from some of Jersey’s freshest local talent.
Summer Lister, Fundraising Manager for the BHF in the Channel Islands commented “The Jersey Heart Awards are an amazing opportunity to celebrate some of the bravest, most compassionate, driven and informed members of our community. Our research saves local lives, but it is only made possible thanks to the fighting spirit of Islanders determined not to let this heartless disease beat us. The fun filled Awards Gala entails plentiful celebration and local talent – there is something for everyone to enjoy! ”
