Les Quennevais Duck, Dip and Dive their way to Dodgeball Victory!
December 14, 2016
Eight local secondary schools took part in Jersey's first secondary school tournament, raising vital funds for the British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch. Kindly supported by Rossborough Healthcare, the first dodgeball tournament of it's kind took place on Tuesday 29th November with over 80 school children battling it out on the courts for the ultimate dodgeball title. It was an extremely close tournament, with the ultimate title going to Les Quennevais closely followed by De La Salle.
The BHF Jersey's ‘Ultimate Dodgeball’ challenge looks to show children how keeping fit and maintaining a healthy heart through exercise can also be fun. The year seven pupils played a sponsored game of dodgeball for two hours in the pre-Christmas tournament, some of which were doing so in support of their friends affected by heart disease. Year Seven pupils from Les Quennevais, Haut Vallee, Grainville & De La Salle all took part whilst raising funds for life saving research of the BHF.
Speaking of the school’s involvement, Richard Clarke, Rossborough Healthcare said: “All the pupils really enjoyed taking part; we are delighted to be able to support the 2016 Ultimate Dodgeball Tournament and help to make it bigger and better than it has ever been before! At Rossborough Healthcare, we are passionate about encouraging people to be proactive with their health, and Dodgeball, whether you’re young or old, is a fantastic way to have some fun and get active. The British Heart Foundation – Jersey Branch, do so much great work locally and the fact that we can support them with this event means that we will help to generate more awareness of the important work they do, as well as helping to generate what we hope will be a significant amount of sponsorship for them.’
The BHF’s nationwide initiative is available to all schools and youth groups and includes a fundraising pack worth up to £30 including everything needed for a successful dodgeball tournament. Schools and youth groups who register for the kit can also keep 20% of the money they have raised, which they can put towards new equipment and resources to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Alex Talcer, Programme Manager for Ultimate Dodgeball at the British Heart Foundation, adds: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to all of the schools involved and Rossborough Healthcare for supporting the event, as well as t he adult tournament in the summer months."
