Welcome and thank you for visiting our blog. The British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch was established in 1972 to support the life saving research of the BHF. We have created this page to help Islanders keep up to date with local events, activities and ways in which you can support our local fight against heart disease.
The pennies have been counted and we can confirm that Jersey's ultimate adventure race, Sandstorm, has raised an amazing £4,050 for the British Heart Foundation at it's 2016 Event!
Over 600 participants took to this year's annual extreme challenge course - running, jumping, swimming, swinging, climbing and generally pushing themselves to the limit in the name of good fun and a great cause.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the event organisers 3D Events, Absolute Adventures, Simon Sand & Gravel Ltd for putting on such a fantastic community event. We would also like to say a HUGE thank you to the wonderful event sponsors Nedbank Private Wealth, who have very kindly chosen the BHF Jersey Branch as the beneficiary charity for the event.
Amongst the many bodies taking to the sand dunes were an army of BHF volunteers donning smiling faces and positive attitudes. Without these fantastic supporters, the BHF simply couldn't achieve what we need to achieve. Thank you so much, especially to Emma Long who took up the mantle of volunteer coordinator on the day.
We can't stress how amazing this is and how grateful we are for this amazing support. The BHF have made some incredible discoveries which are already saving lives, but this extra push will really help us in our fight to beat cardiovascular disease for good.
What could £4,050 do for the British Heart Foundation? £4,000 could pay for state-of-the-art lenses for a microscope that can examine cells smaller than a human hair, and work out what is going wrong inside them. It could also pay for four months supply of all the protein building blocks our scientists need as they try to build new working heart tissue for people with heart failure.
