Welcome and thank you for visiting our blog. The British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch was established in 1972 to support the life saving research of the BHF. We have created this page to help Islanders keep up to date with local events, activities and ways in which you can support our local fight against heart disease.
Thousands of runners are attracted to the annual event which sees over 65% of participants visiting the Island in order to take part. Hearty, the BHF Jersey mascot made its debut into the competition in 2015, with runners Romany Perchard and Olivia Rose Duffy who took part in the 3K race through the streets of St Helier and it was here that BHF Fundraising Manager Summer Parkin first met the very special young man named Jayden Corley...
Jayden's Challenge: Part one
Jayden was born with a congenital heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallots, for which Jayden will require treatment and surgery throughout his life. Since meeting Jayden and his mother Mandi, the two have been helping the BHF Jersey Branch raise local awareness and funds with the help of their family and friends. This year, Jayden has set up his own 'Jayden's Challenge' initiative whereby he hopes to raise £2,000 for the BHF Jersey Branch over the next year by setting himself personal challenges including walks, runs and football tournaments. His fundraising efforts kicked off on Sunday and the young Islander has received a fantastic wave of support, raising nearly half of his year's target in just one day!
Jayden was joined by BHF Jersey Chairman Haydn Taylor as he took part in the 3K race on Sunday, along with Hearty and his friend's and family Mandi, Mark Harris, Leanne Stoneman, Wayne Stoneman and Patrick Corley. Jayden crossed the finish line with a fantastic sprint finish of 33 minutes and 52 seconds. You can support Jayden's Challenge by visiting his Just Giving Page
Romany Perchard - Not Quite Eddie Izzard's 27 but...
Romany Perchard chose to support the BHF Jersey Branch for a second year running, this time signing up to not one but two marathons!
Romany successfully completed the her 'round the rock' Jersey Marathon on Sunday, in a fantastic 4 hours, 28 minutes and 23 seconds. But that's not enough for Romany, as she gets ready to conquer New York on the 6th November 2016. Romany goes above and beyond to set herself personal challenges and we are so happy that she has joined the fight for every heartbeat, often donning the hearty mascot attire herself and getting stuck in with the fun. You can follow and support Romany's fundraising challenge by visiting her Just Giving Page
Jacquie Joins the Fight for Every Heartbeat in the Relay Marathon
We are absolutely delighted that Islander Jacquie Campbell chose to support the BHF Jersey Branch as she took part in the Relay in honor of her husband, who has required the help of the life-saving research of the BHF. You can follow Jacquie's story on her Just Giving Page.
BHF Jersey Keep Runners Hydrated at the Corbiere SandStorm Adventure Race Water Stall!
Obviously we wanted to do our bit and show our support to the amazing participants in Sunday's race. So were quick to volunteer to host the water stall on the Corbiere leg along with Sand Storm Adventure Race and Sponsors Nedbank Private Wealth. BHF Jersey is the chosen charity for the amazing event which is set to take place on the 15th October in St Ouen's Bay. If you haven't already, you can sign up for this fantastic challenge event here.
