Welcome and thank you for visiting our blog. The British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch was established in 1972 to support the life saving research of the BHF. We have created this page to help Islanders keep up to date with local events, activities and ways in which you can support our local fight against heart disease.
On August 6th, Islander Rik De Louche will be taking part in the Channel Island's original Ultra Marathon of approximately 48 miles (77Km) and 1000 metres of ascent - a race which circles around the island of Jersey following the stunning granite cliffs of the North Coast to the golden sands of St. Ouen's Bay and the South Coast. What's more, he will be doing this to raise vital money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and upon completing this epic challenge, will be heading down to our biggest fundraiser of the year, Groove De Lecq!
This is a huge challenge and we are so grateful to Rik for supporting the BHF Jersey Branch on this personal accomplishment! CVD is responsible for more than 27% deaths in the UK (c.155,000 deaths per year) and there are an estimated 7 million people living with CVD in the UK so chances either you or someone you know has been affected by it.
Since BHF was established and due to the fantastic work the BHF do, the annual number of CVD deaths in the UK has fallen by more than half and the age-standardised death rate from CVD has declined by more than three quarters. This also massively reduces the economic burden on the UK healthcare service.
Pease help the BHF to continue the vital work they do by donating to Rik's Just Giving page.
