Biggest ever line-up of local bands announced for Groove de Lecq
Groove de Lecq is celebrating its 5th anniversary with a bonanza of local musical talent. The not-for-profit festival, which has to date raised over £100,000 for various charities, will this year by working with the British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch, with further opportunities for other charities to benefit. The ten hour festival which has been supported by headline sponsors iQ since its creation in 2011, is set to take place on Saturday 6th August at Le Moulin de Lecq and will see 27 bands and artists performing throughout the day.
A mix of Soul, Rhythm, Blues, Rock and original solo artists will be playing over 3 stages at the festival that opens its doors to a family audience of 2,500 people at midday. Headlining the main stage will be Guernsey-based Buffalo Huddleston whose performances have recently wowed crowds at Folklore and the Sark Folk Festival. DJs from both Jersey and Guernsey will also be spinning tunes at the Reggae and Record Bus that will be returning in its popular beach habitat. Local favourites Raw Prawn will be sharing a stage with Pirate Party Brigade, The Smooth Hounds, Lauren Ivy and the Engine, The L is M Band and Mezra - a local group of Under 18s who recently formed at the new Youth Arts Jersey facilities at the renovated St James’s church
‘As ever we have a fantastically strong line-up,’ says the festival’s music director Paul Bisson. ‘Jersey’s music scene remains as vibrant as ever, and we’ve worked hard to provide a musical programme that will cater for all tastes. We’re also delighted to welcome our first Guernsey band to Groove, and look forward to what promises to be a wonderful conclusion to the day.’
The mission statement of the organizing committee is focused on supporting charities through helping raising awareness and funds. This year Groove is in the Heart, with all profits from ticket sales going towards the British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch and its local fight against cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, an appeal to all charities to be creative and benefit from the day has been answered by Mencap’s Art Projects who will be creating a Mad Hatters Tea Party Installation, Durrell who are collecting cans for corridors to be recycled, The JSPCA’s mascots Jazzy & Sassy will be teaching children to dance, Channel Islands Pride will be hosting the fancy dress tent, Acorn who are supplying furniture and bespoke art work and Brighter Futures who are taking care of the children’s playground.
Beth Gallichan, Founder of Groove de Lecq, added “We are very fortunate to have such talented musicians and artists in Jersey who alongside a team of phenomenal home-grown volunteers create the best community festival experience possible. Our amazing sponsors at iQ enable our commitment to supporting local music, implementing environmental and ethical practices, fostering creative projects as well as helping charities and good causes. We have a fantastic audience that grows each year as new people discover our unique festival experience. In the past 3 years tickets have sold out; this year promises be the most fun yet!”
In addition to the musicians and performers, who forgo their fees, a group of over 80
volunteers contribute to help bring the festival alive. Elements Arts Summer Camp for children ages 5-11 are creating art installations from their base at The National Trust Barracks. Ecoscape, local ecological land management experts, will be joined groups from Jersey Electricity, Jersey Financial Services Commission and Princes Trust volunteer to enhance the festival environment by utilising low carbon and traditional methods of countryside Management.
