Welcome and thank you for visiting our blog. The British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch was established in 1972 to support the life saving research of the BHF. We have created this page to help Islanders keep up to date with local events, activities and ways in which you can support our local fight against heart disease.
The BHF Jersey Ultimate Adult Dodgeball Tournament kindly supported by Gallery Magazine & Rossborough Healthcare!
We are absolutely delighted with this year's tournament, which took place on Saturday 9th July - starting at Les Ormes Indoor Soccer Courts pumping with 80's beats, before all teams were invited along to the official prize giving and after-party down at Kismet Cabana - Ouaisne, to try their hand at more activities including Jumbo Operation Game sponsored by Mange Tout and Dodgeball Target Practice.
This year saw 11 teams battle it out for the ultimate title, with some amazing names including Dodger Federa & the Artful Dodgers, Spongeball Dodgepants and the Coffin Dodgers!
The BHF Jersey Branch is keen to help Islanders develop Dodgeball as a sport played locally. The charity already offers free dodgeball kits to schools and youth groups who wish to organise their own dodgeball event, which can be ordered through the BHF Jersey website. Thanks to the support of Rossborough Healthcare, for the first time the adult tournament included an official UK Dodgeball Association Certified Ref Squad made up of local volunteers and sports men and women who attended a special ref training day hosted by the charity earlier this year. The official UK Dodgeball Association Trainer James Tuthill enjoyed his time in Jersey so much that he returned to Jersey to help at the tournament itself – which was a great asset when it came to the nail-biting final between Marvel-lous Joe’s and the Dodgefathers!
BHF Jersey will be hosting a special Christmas Secondary School tournament in December, where we will see secondary schools battle it out for the ultimate title. Summer Parkin, BHF Jersey Fundraising Manager said “As well as raising funds for the life-saving work of the BHF, we want to encourage Islanders to live positive life-values by being brave, compassionate and driven. Dodgeball is all about getting out, being active and having some fun with friends – whatever your age! As one of our most successful fundraisers last year, we are so excited to see this event grow thanks to the help of our new sponsors at Rossborough Healthcare and Gallery Magazine!”
Richard Clarke at Rossborugh Healthcare commented “‘We are delighted to be able to support the 2016 Ultimate Dodgeball Tournament and help to make it bigger and better than it has ever been before! At Rossborough Healthcare, we are passionate about encouraging people to be proactive with their health, and Dodgeball, whether you’re young or old, is a fantastic way to have some fun and get active. The British Heart Foundation – Jersey Branch, do so much great work locally and the fact that we can support them with this event means that we will help to generate more awareness of the important work they do, as well as helping to generate what we hope will be a significant amount of sponsorship for them.’
Ben Davies, Director at Gallery Magazine “It's great to be supporting a third dodgeball championships and raising money for such a relevant cause. I hope we see teams make as much effort as last year with their outfits and ball dodging!”
