Welcome and thank you for visiting our blog. The British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch was established in 1972 to support the life saving research of the BHF. We have created this page to help Islanders keep up to date with local events, activities and ways in which you can support our local fight against heart disease.
Jersey Chairman TOPS National MyMarathon Leaderboard
June 16, 2016
In May 2016, the British Heart Foundation challenged Islanders to take up the amazing challenge of running a marathon (26.2 miles) as part of its brand new fundraiser MyMarathon to help fund life saving heart research.
The BHF Jersey Branch Chairman, Haydn Taylor, was one of the 21,846 individuals including a number of Islanders who took part in the challenge, which enabled participants to complete the challenge at their own pace by tracking their progress throughout the month.
Having completed his 26.2 miles we are very proud to announce that Haydn completed his MyMarathon at the TOP of the leaderboard, raising an amazing £5062 for the British Heart Foundation!
Thank you so much to all Islanders who took part in MyMarathon this year, Heart and circulatory disease affects around 7million people in the UK and is responsible for around 155,000 deaths each year – around one person every three minutes. Every pound raised from MyMarathon will help the BHF fulfil its ambition to fund half a billion pounds of new research in the next five years, to revolutionise and accelerate the fight against heart disease.
Summer Parkin, BHF Jersey Fundraising Manager said: “Heart disease is heartless. It can affect anyone at any age, but it’s only through research that we can help save more lives. Running a marathon is no easy feat, but with the MyMarathon challenge you decide the place and the pace, so now everyone can go the distance! It’s a great way to get active, have fun and help support our vital work. Every step you take helps us fund more life-saving discoveries in how to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease.”
