Welcome and thank you for visiting our blog. The British Heart Foundation Jersey Branch was established in 1972 to support the life saving research of the BHF. We have created this page to help Islanders keep up to date with local events, activities and ways in which you can support our local fight against heart disease.
The BHF Jersey Branch have now received their final donations for Wear It Beat It 2016 and having counted the pennies, pounds and generous notes, are delighted to confirm that in the month of February alone, Jersey raised an amazing £10,000 for the life-saving work of the British Heart Foundation.
Islanders may recall a hub of fundraising activity throughout national heart month, as local patients, nurses, businesses and individuals joined the fight against heart disease by wearing red and supporting the British Heart Foundation’s Wear it. Beat it campaign 2016.
Activities kicked off on Friday 5th February with a national ‘wear red day’ and continued throughout the month with a host of red activities; from cake sales, town collections and coffee mornings, to live music gigs, ghost walks, valentines pop-up markets, football and mixed netball tournaments.
A special thanks to the Jersey Heart Support Group and Jersey Cardiac Team who supported the BHF Jersey Branch with some of their fundraising events too!
You can watch the Island in action with this short video created for the BHF Jersey Branch:
Heart and circulatory disease is responsible for around 155,000 deaths in the UK and Channel Islands each year – around one every three minutes. Through the public’s generosity, the BHF will fund half a billion pounds of new research over the next five years which will be central to discovering vital treatments for people living with heart and circulatory conditions.
Since 2009 Wear it. Beat it. has raised over £6 million towards new life saving heart research.
Summer Parkin, BHF Jersey Fundraising Manager, said: “Seeing the Island come to life for this year’s Wear It Beat It initiative was absolutely fantastic. This has kicked off 2016 with an amazing buzz and we are incredibly grateful to our wonderful friends and supporters for joining us in the fight for every heartbeat. Our life-saving research is powered by the enormous generosity of our supporters and thanks to this, many Islanders will beat cardiovascular disease. Every pound raised will help us change the lives of millions living with heart and circulatory conditions.”
