Islanders Paint St Helier Red - Friday 5th February for Wear It Beat It 2016
February 6, 2016
On Friday 5th February 2016, Islanders to joined the fight for every heartbeat by wearing red and taking part in the national Wear It Beat It campaign to help raise £1million for life saving research.
St Helier kicked off national heart month with a buzz with red activity, as our friends at Jersey Heart Support Group kindly asked for donations along King Street and BHF mascot Hearty made his way to local businesses who were dressing in red for this special day. Friday night St Helier drinks were accompanied by a Cupid Bucket Shake hosted by BHF Jersey volunteers, followed by a fantastic Red Jamming Session with amazing local musical talent Little Black Dress, Little Big Band and the Franklins.
Thank you so much to everyone for supporting our first Wear It Beat It activity of the month. Bring on the rest of February!
Each year heart and circulatory conditions, which include heart attacks and stroke, claim the lives of around one in four people in the Island. In 2012, 213 deaths in Jersey were attributed to circulatory disease and an average of 50 people a year die prematurely before the age of 75.
The BHF funds around £100million of new lifesaving research every year which is central to discovering vital treatments for Islanders living with heart and circulatory conditions. By signing up to Wear it. Beat it. you can help power more lifesaving discoveries. Whether you choose to go all out or just wear a splash of red, join the fun across the Island (and the UK) by organising an event this February to show your support. It’s a great way to get friends, family or work colleagues together and help make a difference to millions.
Summer Parkin, Fundraising Manager at the BHF Jersey Branch, said: “We are calling on the people of Jersey to get ahead of the game and start planning their Wear it. Beat it. event for February. Our life saving research is powered by your support and every pound raised will help us change the lives of millions living with heart and circulatory condition”
She continued “Whether it’s a cheery red tea break at work, a yummy red bake sale after school or a jolly red happy hour at home with your friends. Don’t forget to put yourself and your friends in the picture and share your photos on our Facebook and Instagram pages using the hashtags #BHfJersey #WearItBeatIt to inspire more people to get involved.”
